Finding number on overdrive/TR3

Greetings,

This posting concerns a tr3. The serial number or part number on the
overdrive, where do I find it? Do I need to remove the metal plate over the
gearbox and gear selector (ie is in near the top) or do I crawl underneath
(ie is it near the bottom?).
