Somewhere in the boxes - (packrat from way back) I have all of the receipts
for my trip from Illinois to California to British Columbia back to
California through
Alberta/Montana/Utah/Nevada and Back to Illinois over a 3-month period in
1966... ~8600 miles AND YES IT WAS IN A 1959 TR3...

When I find them I can make a submission for the VTR longest trip and also,
there was one place (I think in New Mexico, or Arizona - could have been
Texas, which would make sense) where there was a gas war going on between
two stations on either side of Rt66. I stopped at one to eat and get gas.
Ate at one and noticed that while I was eating, the other station dropped
his gas by 2 cents to 8.9 cents per gallon whereby I filled up the tank for
under a dollar.

Sorry, in order to win this one, your story must have some element of truth!
:)
