Gary,
I would change the upper and lower bearing of the worm just in case since
it's faily cheap. And what I did was to change the cover of the steering box
to an improved one from TR Classic and I am very happy with it.
Here is what they say:

TR 3 Steeering Improvement
The cover plate pictured replaces the original cover plate on the TR2-3A
steering box. The adjusting screw has been replaced with a spring loaded
piston and screw arrangement. This modification allows the correct pressure
to be excerted on the rocker shaft assembly irrespective of the position of
the steering wheel hence reducing steering wheel play and preventing
unnecesary damage to the steeering components. To achieve the best results
it is recommended to start with functionally good steering components
