Fred has told it like it is (or was). I somehow missed the message that
Fred refers to but I'm glad Fred caught it and warned the lists to not
loan their Triumphs to Mr. Guyot. His treatment of Dan Masters was
shameless and when I spoke to Dan at VTR in Portland (July 99) I don't
believe he had yet to get an apology from the man.
Dan is not only a gentleman, and not only an expert on Triumph
electronics, but also a fine mechanic on Triumphs in general. He has
helped me numerous times. Whenever I'd get messages from Dan there
would be an explanation, that even I could understand, and with
professionally drawn schematics in clear graphic form showing me exactly
how to fix whatever question I'd ask. It never failed to amaze me and I
would show my wife and explain to her that: even if you could find
someone in the country who knew that much about TR electronics, you
couldn't afford to pay someone to do that specialized of troubleshooting
work especially in the time frame that Dan always got it back to you.
Not to mention the exquisite clarity and thoroughness. And the biggest
plus for me is that when you talk to Dan, it is not possible to ask him
a dumb question, believe me I've tried. But as Fred said he's too much
of a gentleman to ever let you think it. He's truly missed on this list
and I can't wait until his TR6 Wiring Book is finished (unadulterated
plug: buy two or three or you'll regret it later) and he's back on the
list.
