Around 1980, I met a guy in Jackson Mississippi with a TR3A that had been
modified with a V8 engine. I know what you're thinking, but his was very
nicely done, using an aluminum early-60's era Buick or Olds engine, 215c.i.
I think. He had mated it with a Muncie 4-speed, and had to change and
lower the front end because the weight of the aluminum V8 was so much less
than the original engine. He also had to cut the inner fender wells and
re-route the steering column using some u-joints. To conceal conspicuousy
he routed the exhaust through a large and very quiet muffler. In order to
handle the extra power, he had replaced the wheels and tires with some nice
fat ones, and added a 5-point roll bar. The car was BRG, looked really
nice, ran like a scalded dog, and handled like a go-kart. He ticked-off
many a Corvette and Trans-Am driver, once with me in the passenger seat.
What a ride!!!
If I remember correctly, this guy was in the military and moved around a
lot. I was just wondering if this guy is on the list, or if the car is
still around, and if anyone has seen it?
