Brian,

I had a '80 TR7 in Indiana while attending grad school at Notre Dame,
and did the exact thing you're contemplating - plan "B" of course. I
too was "destitute" and had snow tires on the rear during the winter
with the rag top, and rusty floor pan. All of the great drives in the
Fall, Summer and Spring, made up for the cold days in the Winter. - I
even mounted a window ski rack on it for a couple of trips.

Unfortunately, the timing gear cracked one day in the winter damaging a
piston and some valves, so I had to break out the credit card to get it
running again.

So, if you're prepared to make some potentially major repairs, I'd go
for the TR. You'll probably never look back at your college days with
fond memories of a Honda, but you'll always remember your first
Triumph.

And don't forget, Never let school get in the way of your education.
