I have both the Haynes and Bentley manuals and all they tell you to do to
remove the starter is to remove two bolts that hold the starter to engine
back plate and flywheel housing. The last time that I removed and than
installed the starter motor was before the seats and transmission cover
were installed in the car. It was a snap. I could almost do it from
inside the car in less than a minute or two. I could see everything I was
doing. Now its a different story. I am not able to use my ramps because
the lead part of the ramp is in the way. My question is which is the best
way to do the removal? It is very simple to remove two bolts, but is it
done going in from top of engine bay or from under car or both. Once
unbolted do I remove it from under the. car or pull it out through the
top of the engine bay. If my memory serves me right I think it has to
come out from the top because the exhaust pipe and frame are in the way
below the starter motor. If I take it out through the top of the engine
bay I will have to remove some of the carburetor connecting rods and ect.
Any advice for removing the starter motor is needed. Thanks in
advance. Ron Marx ron.marx2@juno.com
