I am a just turned sixty, divorced male living on my own since my five
children are all out of the house. I have lived my life about 12 mile
NW of Knoxville, TN except for 1957 to 1986 when I was running around
the world in the U.S. Navy for 25 years and working for Bendix Field
Engineering for the remaining years. My youngest opted for the Army
instead of college in 86, so I decided to give up the work/travel life
for the home place.
I have always been interested in fun cars, mostly unfulfilled. The
absolute BEST part of my career was spent in Scotland. I was there from
75 to 80 except for the middle year which I spent on a lovely island
called Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory. While at RAF
Edzell (about halfway between Dundee and Aberdeen) I first owned a 63
Anglia. I got the most out of those 997 cc's. It was so much fun I
traded it for a MK2 Lotus Cortina. I really enjoyed the 1558 twin cam.
My interest then lay dormant several more years.
About four years ago I was in the local NAPA store buying parts for an
Opel GT and the owner told me he had a Triumph TR4 that had been sitting
outside for years. I eventually gave him $800 for the project and
winched it onto a trailer. I had it running in a few months and drove
it for season, then pulled it off the road for two years to replace the
rusted parts and paint it. I drove it this year, but now have the
engine out for a rebuild. By the way, the Opel has been sitting for
four years now. My TR and this list is great.
Regards to all, Ed
