This is an interesting thread. I've had the pleasure of owning over time
an '67 MGB (first LBC), a '62 TR3, a '74 TR6, '73 TR6, '74 TR6 and finally
my most current LBC, a Home Market 1970 TR6. I have to agree with the
comment that the TR3 is quick off the line. Mine just darted away from
stop signs and signals. However, the acceleration seemed to die off
quickly after getting into the upper gears. Fun car to drive though.

While owning my MGB and TR3, I didn't immediately care for the look of the
new Triumph, the TR6. In time though, I really began to greatly appreciate
it's design. Then one day a mate of mine let me drive his TR6. I feel in
love with it immediately. Don't know what it was about the car that
attracted me so. Maybe it was the handling, or the sound of that 6
cylinder engine or the "creature comforts". Two months later I had a brand
new 1974 TR6 sitting in front of the house!! After the usual string of
horror stories on giving up your LBC's, I landed my latest. I just got the
1970 back on the road after a complete frame-off restoration. Prior to
that it had sitting for umpteen years in the open. I never driven it or
any similar TR6 (I lived overseas for many years and saw PI TR6's running
around on the streets of England and Australia, but never got behind the
wheel. I was smart enough to buy my basket case and have it shipped home
with the rest of my personal effects) Now, after putting about 500 miles
on a basically stock PI TR6, let me say that "We was robbed!". There is a
definite performance improvement over the North American TR6 and
consequently the TR4, TR4A and MGB. This one has the jump start feeling of
the TR3 but can accelerate through all the gears. Mind you that most of
the time I never get past 3rd gear unless on the freeway. That 3.45:1
differential makes a difference, too. I got OD, to boot! Wonder if I'll
ever use it. ;-)) The engine has more of a "bark" than "purr" under
acceleration. Sounds wonderful! It's a shame that this version wasn't
made available to the States.

This TR6 is my keeper and daily driver. I loved the other LBCs I've owned
but this one is all I'll need.
