Yes, I have gas, and it is definitely getting to the carb.
I can pull the choke on and the motor revs up to @5000 rpm
before crapping. I can get it to run really rough by blipping the
throttle, then it kinda catches and then dies, then catches....etc, etc.
I'm kinda holding out that the mixture is wrong due to the reduced
back pressure, but I don't know which way to go with it. Surely
someone out there has experienced this, trying to run with open pipes.
I just need to know which way to start adjusting...timing? fuel? slap on a
muffler?

have you checked to see how much gas you have in the tank or
how much is getting to the carb's ????
