Chris and or Karen-

You say that without having electricity connected to the od, some part
of the overdrive will not fully engage, especially in first or reverse...

Hold on a minute, there's either a lack of communication, or a serious
problem here. The transmission will work perfectly (at least on all normal
gears - no overdrive), without any electrical connections at all. The only
thing the electricity is needed for is to "throw" an internal "switch" that
allows the hydraulic pressure in the od pump to engage an overdrive gear
system. The electrical system should NEVER be wired to the solenoid so that
you can energize the solenoid (turn on the overdrive) in reverse. If you have
engaged the overdrive in reverse, you may as well go for the worlds distance
record (about 50 feet), as the overdrive gearset contains a set of one way
gears and rollers. When turned in the wrong direction, these will expand
enough to fracture the rear of the transmission housing. (Now how would I
know that ?) <g> If this has been done, perhaps the case has been damaged and
that has allowed the alignment of the internal od clutch assembly to
sporadically engage/disengage, causing your "slip". However, every time I
have seen (felt) this happen, it feels more like you are trying to tow an
elephant behind your car.

Hopefully I have misunderstood your posting...
