Charlie,
SSSHHHH, don't let her hear you talk about her that way!
Anyway, she's my beast from hell and I want to be this first to tell her so...
it just hasn't come to that yet.
Yes, the flywheel was turned, there was no blueing, glazing
etc. previous to the turning. Things were thoroughly cleaned with brake
cleaning aerosol and completely dried before assembly.
Fortunately, I was given some tips prior to pulling the whole
thing back apart. First off, I had inadvertently overfilled the trans fluid
and
this may have sprayed a little. This has been corrected. Secondly, if the
electrical circuit is not complete, there is part of the O/D mechanism that will
not engage fully, especially in the first, second and reverse gears.
I did not experience any slipping in reverse but that may have just been luck.
Now that I have a circuit running through the system, I have not had any
slipping
(3 days).
Now all that's left is replacing the solenoid, which after trying to
engage
both in circuit and off the trans, I have determined is non functioning.
This will soon be over and I will be more than deserving of a case of
my
homebrew. Unfortunately I finished the last of my latest batch over the
fourth. I do
have a sweet mead that should be ready in early August, but I think
I'll brew up a new batch this weekend in honor of the impending completion of
this
project......maybe call it "O/D ALE".
Will keep you posted
Thanks again

Subject: Re: So now what is my clutch doing?
Chris,
Man, this is turning out to be the Triumph from Hell!
Generally, if a clutch is slipping, it'll do it all the time, when under
load. Just because the pressure plate and friction disk is new doesn't make
them good. I've had a friction disk fail (it lost one of the anti-chatter
springs) after about 500 miles.
Was the flywheel turned, or at least given a non-directional finish, when you
did the change over? Did you notice any glazing or bluing of the flywheel?
Did you clean the friction disk, flywheel, and pressure plate with brake
cleaner immediately before reassembly? - any grease or oil on those surfaces
can cause slippage. A little grease or oil on your hands, transferred to one
of those surfaces, could be causing the problem.
If it becomes a real problem, disassembly and inspection is the only answer.
Sorry, please don't shoot the messenger! I don't have enough knowledge of
O/Ds, working or not, to know if it could be causing an intermittent problem.
Keep me posted,
Charlie B.
