bad starter drive or bad/missing tooth/teeth in flywheel come to mind- if
you pull the starter (after disconnecting battery!), you can inspect that
part of flywheel opposite the starter mount and also check the starter to
see if the drive sticks on the shaft- flywheel is a major problem, rebuilt
starters are pretty cheap
