Your note on the mechanical seal is much appreciated. I remember
when I rebuilt my TR3 engine a friend (who worked for Standard
at one time) advised me not to touch the seal because it was a pain
to readjust and not to boil the block in acid because it would ruin
the aluminun seal/mechanism. Ultimately, the block was boiled in oil.
It appears to have been good advice because everything came out in fine
shape. It's never been a problem.
