Howdy Richard,
        Somewhere in my memory I recall someone talking about putting a
diesel "sailboat" engine into a Land Rover.  Evidently they have the same
block and can even be converted inexpensively(that is from gas to Diesel).
If one can fit into a Rover an adapter plate and maybe flywheel is the only
thing holding you back.  In other words, check around the docks maybe
someone will know more than I.
