I'm not sure I know what you are talking about.  I looked at a couple of 
plumbing supply houses and couldn't find what I was looking for.

What is a brass insert fitting?

I was looking for something stubby with a 5/8" hose barb or nipple on one end 
and an 1/2" one on the other.
