Hello RBHouston,
you asked for opinions, so i'll weigh in. ...
as a "collector car" things i have recently read indicate that
those early 70's vettes are at the bottom of the market now and
will only go up... i don't think they're quite up to what's
being asked in this case, but getting closer. .. also as a
collector, the 454 would be the more desireable, even though,
if i recall correctly, they only put out about 200 hp. ... ..
as a driver, well now that's a different story, and i assume
you're buying it to DRIVE, the new crate 350 probably puts out
more power with less weight, and better gas mileage than the
rat motor that was in the car.... and a good 20' car makes a
great driver! no worries about a rock chips, interior wear,
etc, etc. ...
on the other hand, i personally wouldn't buy ANY car made in
the USA between '70 and '75 or 6. all those safety regulations
were just being implemented as well as all of the pollution and
bumper crap. they hadn't had time to integrate those things,
and they just tacked 'em on, making almost all of them heavier
and uglier than anything on the road before or since. not to
mention the issue of build quality. .. there was a saying about
that time, "GM finds it easier to advertise quality than to
build it". .. .. it was the beginning of the fall in market
share from the General, and with real reason.....
on the other hand... IT'S a VETTE!!!!!!! good gads, you could
be driving a VETTE!!!!!!!!!!!
on the other hand,.... you have different fingers.
