There is a pair of number on the top of the diff, either at the top of the
flange or on a boss nearby. They are expressed as a fraction ( i.e., 10/39)
The numbers will give you the gear ratio, but not the year. There is also a
number on the housing tube, but not a date stamp. You can get a general
idea of year by gear ratio and housing design.
