Go to a different diff and move it to 2nd/3rd. Use a 5.3 diff if you have
to!

BTW, you'll then find the gap between 2nd/3rd is too wide but at least
you'll
be able to change smoothly.

The only fix to the gap problem is a straight cut/close ratio gear set.
