Oops, you may be right.  I know my Mk3 has the cable.  I have seen a MkI 
that was changed over so it should be an easy swap.  @#$#$ originality.

Actually, I believe that might be 1971 or later GT6 (a.k.a. Mk3 model). My 
August 1969-built 1970 model GT6+ has the linkage with those *!%^#%@ plastic 
ball-end links.
