I think he was asking if the assembly (mid 70's model
water neck/thermostat housing, main body and late
model type of pulley) would work on his round-tail
car.
I don't think he's planning on putting a used water
pump with a worn bearing on the car. He might be able
to get the "pump" portion fixed at a machinist for
less money than spending $70 on a new pump and
throwing his old one in the trash. But to buy a new
water pump, plus the correct housing and fan/clutch
would be cost prohibitive for him.
My reply is YES. Use the housing and the water neck
and you can re-use the pump if you get the bearing
replaced by a machinist or buy a replacement
pump/pulley assembly.
