Not a Spit story, but close..
Anyone catch Junkyard Wars on the telly Wed. nite? (U.S.)  One of the teams
was made up partially of a mother/son.
His claim to fame as a youngster was painting their Triumph Herald Pink and
hand lettering a message for his mum on the front.  So maybe that Pink Spit
wasn't the first Triumph to try that shade...
