Thanks for all your responses to my problem BUT .................

I must have some sort of early version of the Dual MC
I found no pin, I have another Dual MC (off a 72?), it doesn't have a pin
either.

There is definitely something in there and its circular.

    I can run a flat screw driver along the inside and then I hit something
and it
goes all the way around. When I go past this point, I can push the piston
down. Could this be a clip ring in a groove?  Perhaps it was such a hassle
that they
went to the pin method of holding the piston ?

I have a Haynes manual and it shows no pin, nor a ring type clip.

The piston is being held there by something, its mechanical not rust or
sludge.

Any other thoughts?  Maybe the ones in 72 -74 the rear piston could not be
rebuilt?
