Patrick, I have done this on many later model manifolds. The problem you
have run into is there a little pin that keeps that in place. You will see
that in the top of the master cylinder where the reservoir meets the body of
the cylinder there is a little round knob sitting there. It should pull
right out with needle nose pliers. and voila you are done. Let me know if
I need to be more descriptive.
