Since my lucas alternator decided to go bye bye, I switched to a Delco unit.
Cheaper, more powerfull, readily available when dead on the side of the road.
Very simple conversion. Took me all of about an hour, including fabricating up
the adjustor bracket. It's as close to a bolt on as I think you can get.
I used the generic 10S1 alternator, and mounted it onto a 1980 Spitfire.
Clipped the wires, connected the large brown to hot, the brown and yellow to #1
and the brown to #2 (might have that backwards, I'm doing this from memory).
The alternator was a bolt on. Shimmed the mounting bolt with some aluminum
foil to tighten it up as the alternator hole is a bit large, and used a few
washers in back. Fabricated an arm for the top, and bent it to gain the
roughly 1/8 inch clearance it wanted. Shimming with washers would have worked,
but I have a torch. That was it! Used the existing belt even. Though a
slightly larger one would have been a bit easier.
Ahh, the delights of plentifull electricity!
