Not an effective response to your question, but perhaps helpful, I have
been using used vegetable cooking oil for my bar lube for quite a few years
and it has worked well. It seems "stickier" than motor oil and does not
tend to fly off as easily.
I read a link on it many years ago and started using it after I started
deep frying turkeys for Thanksgiving and had gallos of the stuff around.
