It sounds like the GFIC outlet is wired to "protect" the regular outlet(s) 
downstream from it.  Then the GFIC detects
a problem in any of the downstream outlets, it will shut off the power to them. 
 

And like others said, it is pretty obvious your refrigerator is busted.
