Completely untrue, on both counts. Whether you choose to remove the engine
only, or both together, is entirely up to you. Personally I'm an engine
only man.
I have heard it is possible to remove the *gearbox* only on a 3-synch
non-OD, which is maybe what Glenn is thinking of.
