There probably is an existing hole somewhere, with a plastic plug. If not,
you could drill one. Consider the course of the cable based on the position
of the vacant switch hole you mentioned. As long as you have a reasonably
straight path, go for it. Too tight a bend, or too many bends, may make it
difficult to operate.
