No Eric, it's not a stupain question. An engine running below proper temp.
for long periods will develope a build up of byproducts of incomplete
combustion. Carbon deposits etc. These will in time cause other problems
such as pre-ignition, knock, ping etc. Left un corrected this could even
lead to catastrophic failure such as a blown piston, damaged valves etc. Get
a new thermostat, flush your system and wash out the radiator. When the
system is clead and functioning as designed it is capable of providing
adequate cooling with the thermostat in place and your engine will run better
longer.
