Jim,
New carbs or Restoration? I got a total restoration.
What was included on my carbs was:
Carb bodies rebushed, fitted with new orig. size shafts, new throttle
plates.
Carb bodies and ancilliaries bead blasted, back to orig finish.
Suction chambers polished - if originally, or if personally desired (mine
were polished, look superb, make my home job on my HS4's look silly <G>)
New jets, New needles (haven't got the spanner to take the float chamber
lids off so can't see whats been done in there till tonight)
New Dampers (mine were totally the wrong type)
In my case new Pistons and new Suction chambers, and new linkages. My
pistons were binding on the chambers, I had been polishing them with emery
paper but these were too distorted in the end - Suction chambers and pistons
are matched pairs so must be replaced together.
Every wearing nut and bolt on the things are brand new
All new gaskets everywhere.
BTW when I say new, what I mean to say is Bill takes good undamaged parts
from his stock and has them professionally replated by a company, so the
'new' parts are all orig. just restored.
I don't want to fit these to the A they look too nice, I had to ring Bill
and tell him just that! It's almost like a piece of sculpture, I hate to put
them in my oily engine bay!! My A is virtually a daily driver you see. I'll
take some photo's so everyone can see these. They really are gorgeous. I
know who'll be doing my BN2's carbs. I could never get them looking as good
as these.
Don't quote me on this, as the cost would vary, depending on the condition
of the originals. Mine were totally stuffed, and even Magnette carbs instead
of MGA believe it or not. I had to have everything replaced at $550.00 AUD
($350.00 USD). Not cheap but worth every penny. If your carbs are reasonable
and don't need new suction chambers, pistons, new linkages etc then Bill
said the average was $400 AUD. Thats around $260.00 USD. All carbs are
treated the same way, no matter if it's $400 or $550, they are all restored
to look as good as these apparently. I don't know how much the new (old but
new) carbs are - he has lots of orig HS, HIF etc, but email bill@sumidel.com
and he can tell you himself.
Cheers,
Neil.
