Thanks Mike and Trevor,

I think that I am going to take the suggested route of replacing the
FACET pump with a suggested (quote "more original") one from my friendly
specialists... if it is no better than at least I will end up with a
spare fuel pump (always handy :-).

Well, tick, tick, tick I probably could handle but this sucker sounds
more like CLACK, CLACK, CLACK!

The current pump is mounted on a fairly rigid strip of rubber (looks
like a piece of old tyre) with a seperate ground wire. The rubber
should have provided it with some vibration isolation but it doesn't -
I would love to see how it bounces around while I drive. Maybe it is
*too* rigid.

I will let you all know if the change fixes the problem and then you can
be aware of the pump to install if you want to send the next owner
slowly crazy!

The only way I managed to ignore each "ex" was to leave the State...
staying in such close and enclosed proximity would have been worse than
a loud fuel pump.
