Warren:
I would check your local MG sources. I would be looking for a
block with caps intact. It is not common to damage an engine block
assy. so used prices should not be that high. I sell good block
assemblies for $100.00. Bore the cylinders, then away you go. If you
find a replacement main cap you will still have to have the engine line
bored. Caps do not interchange from one engine to another. Welding the
cap on a MGB engine does not seem cost effective, and will likely cause
more problems down the road.

Thanks for the response to my previous question after finding copper in
the
crankcase. It was the main bearings, the center and ends in particular.
A
regrind is in order and have stripped the engine completely. When I
pulled
the #2 main, the cap was broken. Don't know if the unequal torque from
the
wrench broke it or if it was already sheared. What would be the best bet
to
have this welded, or try to track down a new cap?
