James,
The big thing with a Ford engine is the front Sump. Ususaly the front x-member has to be chopped up a bit to make room for the oil-pan.
I have a modular 4.6L in my mustang, and I'm not all that impressed with it. Don't get me wrong, it's a good engine, but there are a few others I'd consider first:
Look for a Chevy LS-1 or LS-6. They are all-aluminum, have a rear-sump (sort-of) and put out more HP than the 4.6L
or, look for a Cadillac Northstar, also aluminum, DOHC engine that puts the 4.6L to shame in terms of smootheness.
Plenty of old people wreck their Cadillacs on a daily basis, so there is no shortage of Northstars.

Just out of curiosity. Could somebody tell me how a Ford swap differs from
a BOPR. I know there are a few people that have done both. I have done a
215 and am considering either a Ford 5.0 conversion or a swap on another
car. I don't have the means to do it now, but if the right wrecked mustang
were to appear, you never know.
Has anyone ever done one of the modular Ford V8s?

What I have been looking at is a FI 5.0, a T-5, and a mustang rear axle. I
know the T-5 details, and I'm sure the rear axle would have to be narrowed.
