James, you should have your crank checked mounted between V-blocks,
as in a crank press.This is something any shop that grinds cranks will have,
and it takes minimal time. You can do the same thing by just installing the
front and rear bearings and check the journals with an indicator. It's awkward
in
that the counterweights are narrow and there is no room for a dial. Crank
press has a mounted indicator with a long shaft so this is not a problem. All
the
journals should be checked for alignment, as well as the seal surface and the
snout. A crank can indicate fine on #3 main and be out of alignment on 2 or 4.
If the total runout is .001" or less that is ok. More than this I would have
it pulled straight.
