John:

<<<snip>>>
One old problem resurfaced twice. The little screws that hold the
"condensor plate" down in the distributor loosen up.
<<<Snip>>>
You need to determine why. Are the threads too large or stipped or is
it due to vibration. If the latter, fit a star type lock washer. If
the former then a larger screw, or subsitute a bolt and nut.

<<<Snip>>>
A restorer suggested that the holes the screws go into are longer than
the screws themselves. Thgus, there are good treads at the bottom and if
you could get a longer screw of exactly the same tread pattern the holes
would be "good for another 50 years."
<<<snip>>>
Perhaps if the problem is worn threads or the slightly stripped ones.

<<<snip>>>
Another MG'er suggested just a drop of Loc-Tite on each screw.
<<<snip>>>
Perhaps. If the screw is also used as an electrical conductor then the
Loc-Tite could be an insulater. Then you could loose the electrical
circuit.

<<<Snip>>>>
Another suggested self-tapping screws of "about" the same size (which
sounded hit-or-miss to me).
<<<snip>>>
Why not? The plate is already on its way to being junk.
