Lee,

First of all, how do you know it's overheating? Coolant boiling out?
When? Temp gauge? How high? 190-200 degrees is ideal on a TD, somewhat
higher on a TF with the pressurized system. Vapor lock? Vapor lock only,
with no boil over?

Have you checked the timing? If it is too far off, this can contribute
to overheating.

I'm not sure what you mean by "installed a diverter". What is a
diverter? The one thing I've had some luck with is installing a solid
gasket between the thermostat housing and the small elbow going to the
bypass hose. Block it completely. I usually use a plastic piece cut from
a plastic pop bottle.

Also, I've had good luck with a product from NAPA called NAPACool. It's
an agent that helps in heat transfer. Similar to RedLine Water Wetter,
but a whole lot cheaper.

Other mechanical things to try are more complex. Let's leave those until
you've tried the easy (and cheap) things.

Regards,
Lew Palmer
