Hi Francis, When I dismantled my 54 TF I also found a broken coil spring.
They are not an expensive item and I recommend replacing them as a pair
otherwise you may find one side of the car lower than the other!!.
When it comes to front suspension and steering components ( not forgetting
brakes ) my motto is if in doubt replace with new.
