The first of many, many Spitfire victories in SCCA National races happened
at Watkins Glen. The victory was by Erwin "Ernie" Lorincz. Lorincz was a
independent grassroots racer who followed up that victory with others (VIR) to
gain the regional SCCA championship.
Considering that he was going against the factory back efforts of
Group 44, he must have been a very talented driver. From time to time, he was
mentioned in the TOA newsletter. Apparent stopped racing Triumphs soon after
selling Spitfire to Doc Hickman.
Not been able to find any photographs of the event. Hoping that the
museum at the Glen might have some in its archives. Has anyone used the
museum ?
