The rear axle bearings are in fact packed with grease. There is a
"GREASE CATCHER" outboard of the axle bearing and an oil seal inboard
of the bearing that is pressed into the housing that prevents the
diff oil from getting to the bearing unless it fails. It is possible
to regrease the bearing with a grease gun nozzle tip that has a very
small opening and a relatively long tip. These tips are available at
auto supply stores. Axle bearing grease is recommended.
It is not recommended that the bearing be removed and then reused
because it is likely that the bearing will be damaged during its
removal. A bearing retainer collar should never be reused. These
parts are available from Nissan.
I have some kits available that include the bearing, collar and grease catcher.

putting longer studs into the flange at the rear is that you have to
take the backing plate off which requires removing the bearing
collar (retainer). It typically has to be cut off - it's something
to be avoided unless you're changing the rear axle bearings anyway...
