hi everyone

i have a '66 mustang i'm trying to get running so i will have the
garage space for the roadsters (2 '67 1/2 SPLs, one running great, one not so
much)! anyway, i got to the part where i pre-oil the engine (289 V8) using a
drill motor attached to a device that fits into the hole where the distributor
goes. the pre oiling seemed to go fine. but when i attempted to remove the
device from the distributor hole. it resisted. i pulled and pulled and
finally worked it out. too though, the little shaft that turns the oil pump
also pulled up and is now about 1/2 inch above where it should be (or at least
where it was before). the distributor won't go all the way in, and that
little hexagonal shaft likely won't turn the oil pump.

i've tried to wiggle
and jimmy and otherwise attempt to get the things in position with no luck.
so, am i going to have to pull the oil pan, remove the oil pump, and
re-assemble the shaft? or is there some trick to getting the thing back?
this ever happen to anyone?

thank you for any and all your help/suggestions.
steve
