My best Guess, and this is an interesting problem:
The rear brakes (one or both) may have been adjusted too tight, to the point
of slight
aditional drag, causing heat. The heat causes the shoe material and
associated metal
backing to heat and expand, applying the brakes even more, and causing you
to
feel like the emergency brake is on. This would also cause a hard pedal.
While, waiting for the tow truck, the brakes cooled and released. You
probably took off
enough shoe material to prevent this problem from occuring again...i.e. the
very rare
problem that "fixed itself"
I said rear brakes, because the front brakes float, however its possible for
this to happen
at the front if you have a sticky piston, but not likly, because you would
feel the car pull
to one side or the other, and since they are in front you would probably
smell them
gettin hot.
Yea....this might be a little far fetched, but this is not an everyday
problem and is just my
best Monday Morning Guess...and its before I have had even a 2nd cup of
coffeee......
so if folks find glaring errors in my resoning, please be kind!
Best Regards,
