Oh, contraire!  I have always thought wire wheels were extremely cool!  Not so 
much when they start getting those rust pockets around the base, but there's no 
substitute for that look.  I have also never thought of them as cheap (looking 
or otherwise), or particularly related to the British cars.  Having said that, 
I am personall inclined to go with allow only from a mechanical standpoint.  
Given the hard driving I sometimes do, I though the allow wheels had a little 
more integrity for hard corners, etc.  Not that they're going to give way, but 
my thinking was that eventually all the twisting and turning would somehow 
loosen the things or make them un-true.
 
I'm probably wrong, but when you start thinking about something like that, its' 
just one more thing to worry about when you're careening down the highway at a 
mile-and-a-half a minute!

Western Auto for a 4-wheel set of chromed wheels with the wire basket
inserts for $100! One of the things that have always appealed to me about
the "traditional" sports car has been wire wheels. Maybe it's just me, but I
think they look pretty "naturally cool" on the roadster. Maybe they look to
MG like, if so, I can understand why someone might opt for the more
expensive alloy, performance style wheel. When I was young I never had the
option of spending a grand just for pretty wheels,
(to much re-chroming of the other parts to do). Now, with more financial
wiggle room, I still can't justify upgrading to the fancier wheel. I am
willing to try if the general consensus of the group is that the wires look
cheap, MG-like or just plain bad.
Any comments?
