You know, I'm generally not one to engage in flame wars. In fact, anyone
who's been around this list for a while might remember a few times when I
tried hard to put them out. But I'm gonna call you (whoever you are) on this
one. I think your post is uncalled for.
It's obvious that Andrew is really excited that his car is finally together
and that it came out the way he wants it. And that's great. Hell, we all
celebrate when someone gets their car running again after a few years in the
garage, let alone when they've undertaken a full restoration. I was
disappointed that I didn't get the chance to be one of the first to see it.
I was planning on taking time off from work that morning to meet him for
breakfast (and since I get paid by the hour, that means something). Actually
there were several of us here in Seattle that were going to do it.
I've seen roadsters go from being considered throwaway cars that nobody
cared about to the point where people like Andrew will spend a "wheelbarrow"
of money restoring one. Personally I like that, even if mine suffers by
comparison. It really gets me pumped up to see how much the cars have
changed at Shasta over the years.
You say you've noticed how everyone on the list likes to help each other.
Yeah, I like that, too. We support each other and celebrate each others
successes (large and small) and commiserate with each others problems.
So what did your post add to that sense of community? Sure, you're entitled
to your opinion. But sometimes you need to earn the right to express it. You
admit you've been lurking. What have you contributed? Sitting back sniping
at someone who has invested a bunch (and I don't mean just money) in a
restoration just sounds like sour grapes to me. It's the type of thing I'd
expect to see on a Porsche list. But it's inappropriate here.

p.s. Andrew, your car rocks! Congratulations.
