I'm looking for ideas as to why a newly installed clutch will not
disengage. Here's the background info:
We just completed an engine rebuild on a '68 1600, and it started and
purred like a kitten. As part of the rebuild, the 1600 clutch
components were replaced with 2000 components (Nissan). The original 4
speed tranny was replaced with an early 4 speed but the clutch lever
from the late tranny was installed. The clutch master cylinder was
replaced with an aftermarket cylinder and the clutch hydraulics were
bled completely. The freeplay on the slave cylinder pushrod was
adjusted to 1/8 inch. The clutch pedal feels completely normal and the
clutch lever seems to move the full stroke it should to disengage the
clutch. FYI, the clutch part #'s were verified to be correct for 2000
clutch parts and the disc is not installed backwards.
Is the clutch lever from a late tranny interchangeable on an early
tranny? TIA for any ideas, especially if they don't involve pulling the
engine back out :-).
