The roadster springs are pretty much indestuctable... i have seen only a
few broken front springs on all the roadsters i have gone though. in the
last 33 years , surface rust means nothing, heavy pitting by rust that
may ,but then thoughs were never the broken ones, all the brolen ones
looked good, i supect that the broken ones had defects when made, and none
have ever broken from use ......
as for the rear spring they never sag, it is that the early ones were made
to set lower , and the later ones raised the car.. inless there is a kink in
a leaf on the rear spring it is not damaged or saging...
the car was designed to set about two inches lower in the front, the car was
raised in the front when shipped to the usa ...
springs go as follows
all stock front are the same
there are 3 diffrent early springs (-) (0) (+) these i bet were lot
checked at the factory and then marked the (-) sets the lowest
the early springs also a bit stiffer , than the later ones ..
the later springs raise the rear of the car about 1.5 inches ...
then there is the comp springs they set 1.75 inches lower in the front and
1.5 inches lower than the early spring. in the rear
. the front are stiffer and the rear are realy stiff, you can remove leafs
on the rear to soften them up...
for street use the early rear and shortened stock springs works the best,
for most road conditions.. the comp only work good if your driving right
behind the black top machine... :-)
on my turbo i run the early springs in the rear and have the comp up front
that is a good combination also.
On my 67 1/2 with a old race motor and mid close grears with a 460 limited
slip i have comp all the way around , as it is just for hot dogging around
in , but not good for long trips , your butt goes num...
