Another way to do this s to use a part from a Honda. My '88 honda
uses an electronic module that hools to the points and shuts off the
fuel pump when the points are not pulsing. When you initially turn on
the ignition it turns the pump on for a few seconds to bring the pressure
up. This is on the Accord LX, carb, not FI.
