Mick,
I used paint remover to take off the coating and then I used Eagle wheel
cleaner - the type for uncoated wheels to clean the aluminum - it etches the
aluminum but do it outside as the fumes are noxious and wear gloves. I then
polished the wheels using a Foredom shaft grinder but you can use your drill
w/buffing pads on it. I start w/the grittiest buffing compound (having a
senior moment can't remember what it is called but it is black) then after
cleaning the wheels with a grease remover like Simple Green or 409 I then
polished them with rouge on a new buffing wheel. Time consuming but they did
turn out very nice.
