New Temp sender is in!!

Hello All,
        Got the old frozen in temp sender out by slowly drilling it out with 
succesively bigger drill bits.  I had to pry out some of the old threaded 
material but I cleaned up the threads and was able to install the new sender...
QUESTION>  My @#^%$#%$!! temp gauge does not work!?!?!  Its a new sender
its grounded and when I ground the sender wire the gauge reads full hot.  The
fuel gauge works great.. What the heck could still be wrong????
