I have a parts car that used to be my daily driver. About 6 month before I
parked it I bought
a couple of new brass floats from the dealer and installed them. When I picked
up my "new" 67.5
I put the floats in the carbs as insurance. Within 3 months both floats were
sitting in the bottom
of the float bowls! The new floats from Nissan are plastic foam, and don't
have this problem. I
went back to using my old unknown floats and they are working fine. I will be
buying a new spare
float from the dealer soon.
As for checking your spare brass floats, first shake them. Any liquid in them?
if so, they are
trash. If not, put them in a pan of hot water, not on the stove, putting
something on top of them
to push them under. Leave them until the water is cold. Now do the shake test
again. I would
repeat this a few times. If they don't have liquid in them after that, they
are fine for now. If
liquid is in them trash them.
Peace,
Pat
